Truck rolls over driver who got out of vehicle to check engine

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – An elderly man is expected to make a full recovery from injuries suffered when he was struck by his own vehicle Saturday.

A St. Clairsville Police Department dispatcher said the man apparently had vehicle trouble and pulled into a parking lot on Newell Avenue in the city. He exited the vehicle and was looking for the source of the trouble when the pickup truck rolled backward, striking him.

The St. Clairsville-area resident, whose name was withheld because some family had yet to be notified late Saturday, received head injuries as a result. He was taken by a Cumberland Trail Fire District ambulance to Wheeling Hospital, where he underwent surgery, the dispatcher said. His daughter told police the man was expected to make a full recovery.
