Monroe County fatal results in Ohio 7 closing

A FATAL accident involving a pedestrian and two vehicles is being investigated by the St. Clairsville Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Ohio 7 in Monroe County was Viola “Kim” Stark, 34, of Fairfield Bay, Ark. She had been temporarily residing in Sardis.

According to information from the Highway Patrol, on Thursday at 9:14 p.m.. the post received a call of a serious injury crash on Ohio 7 in Monroe County. Troopers from the Post, deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, medical personnel from the Sardis Volunteer Fire Department, the Monroe County Coroner’s office and the Ohio Department of Transportation were on the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Jeep Liberty driven by Patricia Blake, 61, of Sardis, was northbound on Ohio 7 when she struck Stark. The Highway Patrol released stated that Stark was reported to be walking in the roadway.

Stark was then struck by a 2010 Chevy Malibu driven by Ruth Piatt, 74, of New Matamoras, which was southbound on Ohio 7. Stark was pronounced dead at the scene by the Monroe County Coroner.

Ohio 7 was closed for approximately 3-1/2 hour due to the incident.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor for the pedestrian, but not for the motor vehicle operators.

The incident remains under investigation.
