Smithfield man killed in crash
MOUNT PLEASANT – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into a three-car crash, which resulted in the death of a Smithfield man and the injury of another individual.
Daniel D. Flaherty, 67, 124 High St., Smithfield, was pronounced dead at East Ohio Regional Hospital at Martins Ferry where he was transported after the accident, which occurred Saturday at 5:32 p.m. on Ohio 150, south of Mount Pleasant.
A female passenger in a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old was taken to the OVMC, Wheeling, and her injuries were not life-threatening, according to the patrol.
Flaherty’s car was headed west on Ohio 150 when an eastbound vehicle driven by a 17-year-old male “went left of the center line, striking” his car, according to the accident report. After that collision, the Flaherty car was pushed into a car, driven by Gary Kish, 58, 1249 State Highway 152, Dillonvale.
On the scene in addition to the State Patrol were the Dillonvale Fire Department, Dillonvale Chief of Police Scott Christian, Mount Pleasant Fire Department, Mount Pleasant Emergency Medical Services and Dillonvale Emergency Medical Services.
