Missy arrested after lock-down

SHADYSIDE – Jefferson Elementary School staff, students and parents suffered through some intense moments Friday morning after the school was placed on temporary lock-down following a tip to authorities that an armed, suspicious individual was walking back and forth near the school.

Belmont County 911 took the call and quickly dispatched officers to the scene, who were following up on reports of a man wearing a ski-masked, dressed in camouflage attire and carrying a bow-and-arrow.

The Shadyside Police Department, along with officers from Bridgeport, Bellaire, the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the call.

The suspect had left the scene by the top officers arrived. But, given his description, they had a feeling who it was and where to find him.

Officers traveled to nearby Village Trailer Court, where they found and subsequently detained 31-year-old Brent A. Missy. The alleged weaponry was still in Missy’s possession at the time of his discovery.

Missy was taken to the Belmont County Jail and booked on charges of inducing panic and having weapons under disability.

He has previous convictions in Eastern Division Court, including menacing and carrying a concealed weapon within the last few years.

He is being held on $7,500 bond.
