He was born on November 16, 1934, in Lloydsville, a son of the late Clarence and Alice Morgan Saffell.

A 1952 graduate of Belmont High School, John was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lafferty. He was employed by Bannock Coal, drove school bus for the Union Local School district for 17 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was a sister, Virginia Vandyne.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Jeanine Shippy Saffell; a son, Mike (Sara) Saffell of Uniontown; a grandson, Gavin Porter of Bethesda; a brother, Clarence (Doc) Saffell of Belmont; two sisters: Lois Bugay of Belmont and Carolyn Fraley of Johnston, Ohio. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his loyal dog, Katie.

Friends will be received at Warren Funeral Home, Flushing, Monday 2-4 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m. where vigil service will begin at 3:45 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St.Paul’s Catholic Church, Flushing, Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Frederick Kihm the celebrant.

Burial will follow in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Lafferty.
