Prep Softball Roundup: Harrison, Buckeye girls win

CADIZ – Katie Ellzy was a one-player wrecking crew here Thursday afternoon.

The Harrison Central sophomore tossed a two-hitter, struck out 10 and drove in six runs in a 10-0 shellacking of visiting Barnesville (11-9) at Sally Buffalo Park in softball action.

In knocking in the half-a-dozen runs, Ellzy stroked a single, double and home run.

Shianne Nameth singled twice to drive in two runs for the Huskies (14-5). Kiley Staley singled and doubled, while Kara Dunfee and Paige Dunlap evenly divided four singles. Emily Dodds doubled.

Paige Gibbons doubled for the Shamrocks.

Buckeye Local 7,

Toronto 0

AT Connorville, the 13-9 Lady Panthers received shutout pitching from Ivy Starcher in a victory over the Red Knights. Starcher allowed but two hits while compiling eight strikeouts and no walks.

Lauren Swiger singled and doubled for a Panther RBI. Contributing RBI hits were Amy Balk, Aliyah Marelli and Kaylee DeCesare.

River 3,

Monroe Central 2

At Sardis, Mikayla Cieszeski’s single with two outs in the bottom of the fourth scored Rosie Romick with what turned out to be the game-winning run as the Pilots (17-8) slipped past the visiting Seminoles (5-14).

Haylee Bowers doubled twice and knocked in a run for River. Cieszeski rapped two singles, as did Mackenzie Marshall.

Gabby Goudy went the first six innings, striking out five. Monica Curtis fanned two in her inning of work. Neither walked a batter.

Chelsie Roberts was the lone hitting star for Monroe Central with two singles, a home run and two runs batted in. Brittany Hooper singled and doubled.

Bridgeport 12,

Beallsville 9

At Irene Ehnri Memorial Field, the injury-riddled Bulldogs (9-10) got back on the winning track with their win over the visiting Blue Devils.

Caitlin Kroll slugged a two-run homer and Dustyne Cargnell drove in two runs for Bridgeport. Peyton Stewart had two singles and an RBI. Ashley Hadzima doubled.

Shania Phillips smacked a three-run double for Beallsville. Lakyn Tubaugh had a single, double and RBI. Maddie Stephen had a pair of base knocks.

Indian Creek 6, Bellaire 0

At Wintersville, the Big Reds (17-5) were shutout for the third consecutive game as the Redskins (14-3) prevailed.

Paige Geanangel struck out 14 and walked three in allowing four harmless singles.

Edison 8, St. C.6

AT St. Clairsville, invading Edison rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to overtake host St. C.

Winning pitcher Mikayla Tice recorded two strikeouts and five walks for the Lady Cats.

St. C.’s Carlee Gillispie socked two singles. Lauren Figura doubled and drove in two. Miller drilled a run-scoring double.
