SMITH, Jesse, loving husband, dad and pap pap, 81, of 4th Street Yorkville, OH, died Monday, April 29, 2013, in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born February 11, 1932, in Warrenton, OH son of the late Richard and Anna Kate Marks Smith.
Jesse was a retired employee of the Village of Yorkville and the Street Commissioner, who took his job seriously.
He was a member of the Shiloh Temple in Bridge port, OH, a Deacon in the church, former owner/ operator of Benny’s Gas Station in Yorkville, and an honorary member of the Yorkville Volunteer Fire Department.
Jesse will be remembered as a football and basketball “Great” for Yorkville High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Smith; five brothers, Hardy, Frank, Albert, Richard and Calvin Smith; and two sisters, Josephine Catling and Minnie McLaughlin.
Surviving are his devoted wife, of 57 years, Wilma Johnson Smith; two daughters, Gloria (Eric) Richardson of Martins Ferry, OH, Cindy Smith of Columbus, OH; four sisters, Dorothy (Martin) Dalton, of Wintersville, OH, Evelyn Bushman and Clara Snyder both of Wellsville, OH, and Annabelle Cochran of Lorain, OH; two brothers-in-law, William Catling of Columbus, OH and William McLaughlin of Cleveland, OH; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Smith of Martins Ferry, OH; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends were received to pay tribute to Jesse, and celebrate his life, Friday 5-9 p.m. at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville.
Friends will also be received today, Saturday, May 4 at the Shiloh Temple, in Bridgeport, from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tyron Spencer officiating.
Burial will be in Upland Cemetery, Yorkville.
