Powhatan Police make arrest

POWHATAN Austin Hill, 20, of 58725 Homco Rd., Jacobsburg, was arrested Wednesday, July 3, by the Powhatan Police Department. Hill was taken to Belmont County Jail, where he was wanted on two warrants and was charged for resisting arrest.

Powhatan Police were on patrol when Chief Joshua Haught recognized Hill as he was sitting on a bench at the Powhatan Marina with several other people. Haught ran his name and dispatch came back that Hill in fact had two warrants out for his arrest.

Haught, who has dealt with Hill in the past, approached him. At that point, Hill stood and ran towards the woods. Patrolman Jason West pursued Hill through the woods on foot. Hill doubled back into the clearing, where Haught had his taser drawn and ordered Hill to the ground. West proceeded to cuff Hill and checked him for weapons.

“We assume he ran because of the two warrants for failure to appear and was charged for resisting arrest,” said West. “He was taken to Belmont County Jail.”
