WOODSFIELD – The Switzerland of Ohio Local School District has chosen John Hall as its new superintendent.
“Mr. Hall is bringing some skill sets and knowledge that will help this district,” said interim Superintendent Dr. Daniel Doyle. “He has held three very successful tenures as superintendent. … I believe the district is very fortunate and hopefully he is the diamond in the rough that will move the district forward.”
Hall was approved for a three-year contract starting Aug. 26.
“I am excited and my family is excited. We know that the district has a lot of challenges ahead of it, and we’re here to work with the students, the staff and the community to help find some good solutions,” Hall said. “It reminds me a lot of the district I served, Patrick Henry Local, with the various communities, small town flavor and the place where it will be nice to raise my seventh grade daughter.”
The board also made other changes in the district just before school begins.
These changes include making Beallsville teacher and former head boys’ basketball coach Casey Tolzda principal at Powhatan Elementary.
“I am excited and would like to thank the school board for this opportunity. I am looking forward to the first year. I think it is going to be a good opportunity, and I am excited about going to Powhatan,” Tolzda said.
Former Powhatan Elementary Principal Curtis Wisvari has been reassigned as the district improvement coordinator. Wisvari has served as principal for six years and was a fourth grade teacher at Powhatan Elementary for 12 years.
“It is a sad day to leave something that I have invested so much in, but I am honored to be taking on the new position and help the district move forward and improving academic scores, and hopefully we can change for the better,” Wisvari said. “Mr. Tolzda will do an excellent job.”
