LEMASTERS, Howard G., 89, of Barnesville, Ohio, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born on January 15, 1924 in Cameron, WV to the late Wiley Earl and Alvena May (Sidell) Lemasters.

He was a graduate of Cameron High School, received his B.A. degree from West Liberty University and his M.Ed. Degree from the University of Pittsburgh, where he continued his education to complete all course work for a Doctoral degree.

Mr. Lemasters was a retired business education instructor from Barnesville High School and had served as business education instructor at Belmont Technical College and Ohio University Eastern.

He was a member of the Barnesville First United Methodist Church. He served as past president, treasurer, and trustee of the Belmont County Historical Society, had served as treasurer of the Barnesville Area Development Council and secretary of the Barnesville Historical Preservation Committee. He was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, served as co-treasurer and vice president of that organization, member of Claysville Lodge No. 447, F&AM, Scottish Rite of Cambridge and Columbus, Osiris Center of Wheeling. He served as secretary and later president of the Directors Staff of Osiris Shrine, and past president of the Bel-Mon Shrine Club.

Mr. Lemasters was a member of the West Liberty Nathan Shotwell Society and the President’s Circle of West Liberty University.

For many years, he worked for the welfare of animals and was appointed emeritus trustee of the Belmont County Animal Rescue League. He was a member of BPOE 1699 and the Belmont Hills Country Club. Until his illness, he volunteered at the Barnesville Hospital Emergency Room and Ohio Valley Hospice of Wheeling, WV, where he was currently serving as trustee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Theresa J. (Vago) Lemasters.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Ohio. Elks services will be held at 6 and Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday. The service will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Barnesville First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda, Ohio.
