Summer Reading: Final week at BCDL

The final week of the Belmont County District Library’s Summer Reading events kicks off with its biggest event yet. Science in the Park, hosted by the main library in Martins Ferry and taking place at Fodor Memorial Park, will feature a variety of hands-on experiments, including elephant toothpaste and marshmallow launchers. Because the kids read and recorded enough books to meet their Summer Reading goal, Summer in the Park will be accompanied by a pizza party courtesy of donations from Pizza Express in Bridgeport. Ziegenfelder Co. will be serving free popsicles throughout the event, and United Dairy will provide drinks. Science in the Park will be taking place from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 29th.

On Wednesday, July 30th at 10:00 AM, Jim Ellis will visit the Powhatan branch as Captain Grey Beard for some pirate-themed fun.

Also on July 30th at 1:00 PM, the Shadyside Public Library will be holding “Einstein’s Megatronic Cosmic Cafe.” The Cafe will celebrate the end of Summer Reading with a mystery lunch. Pre-registration will be required at this event. To register, call the Shadyside Public Library at 740-676-0506.

At 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 1st, the Bethesda branch will host its Summer Reading Ending Party. This program will wrap-up Bethesda’s Summer Reading program with a variety of games, scientific experiments, and crafts.

The Victoria Read Library in Flushing will hold the final Summer Reading event of the year at the Zion Christian Retreat & Nature Center. At the Center, participants can enjoy a picnic, prizes, games, and, when accompanied by an adult, boating and fishing. Attendants must sign a permission slip in order to attend this event.

All of the Belmont County District Library’s events are free and open to the public. For more information about these or any of our events, call 740-633-0314.
